The “MEd in Educational Studies: Curriculum & Instruction” aims at providing effective teaching and quality learning experiences and opportunities to all students and prepare teachers and researchers who can respond to the increasing complexity of the educational and social environment, and consider curriculum concepts, teaching, learning, assessment, as well as their interactions at macro-level and/or micro-level in a critical and comprehensive manner. The Program will help students acquire the necessary background in the current trends of curriculum and instruction that support creativity and innovation in a socially meaningful way, social and educational agency, and the organization of powerful learning environments, conducive to interdisciplinarity. In this way graduates of the Program can contribute as productive participants in the field of education and fully meet the needs of today’s as well as tomorrow’s social reality. For that purpose, this MEd Program offers a strong theoretical and methodological background in the Curriculum Studies, as well as Content Areas in the framework of Curriculum Studies. Particularly, the structure of this Program offers the opportunity of exploring and acquiring deep knowledge of the pedagogical, educational, social, as well as innovation- and creativity-related aspects of Curriculum Studies. At the same time, it offers the opportunity to focus Curriculum Studies within a wide range of Content Areas: Creative Writing in Education, Educational Technology, Visual Arts and Theatre, Visual Arts and Theatre, Mathematics Education, Sociocultural Aspects and Language Teaching. Great emphasis is given on the students’ cognitive development and the use of different teaching methods, procedures and tools, appropriate for the different thinking, cognitive and learning styles. Finally, the Program aims at equipping its students with advanced research skills and promotes research in the field of education especially in teaching methodology, interdisciplinarity and the social and pedagogical dimensions of education.
The Programme is addressed to teachers of all levels (pre-primary, primary, secondary education, technical professional education) and settings (formal, informal and non-formal education), of public and private education, but also to any individual involved with training. The five Content or Focus Areas of the programme address the postgraduate students who are particularly interested in creative writing in education, educational technology, visual arts and theatre, mathematics education, and sociocultural aspects in language teaching. The graduates of the Program will have the knowledge and skills required for the design and implementation of educational programmes with emphasis on educational innovation and creativity, and on interdisciplinary values. The graduates are expected to acquire the knowledge and expertise to act as hubs for education for the construction of powerful learning environments in their schools, or to be assigned consulting or curriculum development duties by educational authorities.
