In 2005, the AEGIA School of Fine and Applied Arts operated a theater school for children, teenagers and an amateur experimental group of adults. The idea of setting up theater groups matured through long-term productive and selfless collaboration with professionals in the field and aims at the development of expression and the unfolding of the human soul, which are the greatest freedom that being involved in the theater can give.
The aim of the theater groups of the Aegea school is to contribute to the development of theater art in Cyprus and to the creation of quality theater and by extension visual culture in Cypriot society, with a stable core of actors and their enrichment with professionals who will be given the most ideal conditions to develop their theatrical education and stage expression, to plan, be inspired, create and teach as actors, dramatists, directors, set designers, artists, choreographers, performers... The love of the group members, the recognition of what is offered project, the great development of theater groups and society's thirst for theater education, showed us the way to realize our vision.
The AEGAIA theater is housed in a purely artistic production environment of modern art forms, in a building that connects and combines the ancient, the traditional and the modern. The formation of this alternative space gives the possibility of direct contact between actor and spectator, a fact which is the object of exploitation and corresponding visual intervention in theatrical works for the development of new ways of interpretation, especially in relation to the way of presentation and viewing. The cohabitation of theater and visual arts in the same space will hopefully lead to a new way of expression, presentation and treatment.
"I consider theater to be the greatest of all art forms, the most direct way in which one human being can share with another a sense of what it means to be human." Oscar Wilde
Theater seeks to provide students, regardless of age or aspirations, with skills that will be relevant throughout their life. Our young actors get the chance to participate in a theater production each year as well as take exams at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in acting or a related field.
Participants in a theater program develop their personalities and get a broad understanding of theater. The greatest freedom that may be provided by participating in the arts, particularly theater, is the expression and unfolding of the human soul. A theatrical performance, after all, is the result of the synthesis of several different art genres.
It contributes to psychosocial growth, which is founded on the ongoing supply of possibilities for spontaneous, creative, and unadorned expression, that the courses are taught by subject-matter experts with teaching expertise.
Our main objective is to support students of all ages in their ability to express themselves and interact with others as well as the general public. Our intention is to meet the demand for interpersonal communication and emotional expression, primarily through the use of theatrical games to foster actors' observation and imaginative abilities. They can be guided to a performance where they learn how to behave as a group, expand their vocabulary, and draw inspiration from various forms of art like music, painting, and dancing by being familiar with the works of playwrights and other writers from Cyprus and beyond.
All of the aforementioned are applied based on the characteristics and skills of each group, constantly taking into consideration the maturity of each individual.
Despite variations in learning ability, theater groups allow everyone the chance to advance their knowledge and talents to the fullest extent feasible. Also, theater supports the growth of abilities in each of the following areas:
Students at the Aegaia Theatre are encouraged to enroll in classes and take exams offered by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) in order to be recognized and certified for their theatrical knowledge, talents, and level.
One of the oldest drama schools in the UK, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, has made a name for itself as a premier institution for teaching professionals in the performing arts.
